Adventurous multi-talent reinvents the Dutch-lanugage song
The multi-talented, classically trained pianist Hendrik Lasure (see too: SCHNTZL, Bombataz, Warm Bad, An Pierlé and Thunderblender) released his first album under his own name at the end of 2022, immediately claiming his place in the canon of Dutch-language song and confirming his status as an extraordinary composer/musician. Whereas in the past he mainly made instrumental music (with the exception of the very impressive Warm Bad project), Lasure proves on the very fragile/delicate ‘Het Wiel’ (produced by Koen Gisen) that he is also a very talented lyricist and singer. The pure and sparse instrumentation: piano, acoustic guitar, double bass, violin, clarinet and organ is entirely in service of the wonderfully ingenious compositions in which chamber music, (freak) folk and contemporary piano motifs à la Thom Yorke merge into unique songs that grab you by the scruff of the neck and never let go.
Lasure is a Belgian artist to be cherished and we will undoubtedly derive great musical pleasure from him in the years to come.
