Pardon? A punk band with a theatre show? Is that possible? Of course it is!
MANIA! MANIA! is an explosive cocktail of socially observed musical cabaret. Punctuated with stories, ungainly acrobatics and songs from the extensive works of De Heideroosjes. In a new form, sometimes even fragile, but always with the same characteristic energy and commitment. In preparing for this, their first theatre show, the band sat in conclave with a number of theatre veterans including Remko Vrijdag (De Vliegende Panters), Martin Van Waardenberg (Waardenberg & De Jong) and Minou Bosua (De Bloeiende Maagden).
MANIA! MANIA! is the first musical cabaret show ever by a Dutch punk band. The Heideroosjes have been playing together, unchanged, for 19 years. They have taken to the stage more than 1500 times. And not just all over Europe, but in Japan, the United States and South Africa too. Mention a city and they've played there. In that time they have sold some four hundred thousand records and received an Edison. And these guys have found it just as easy to work with the Metropole Orchestra as they have with Urbanus. An exceptional group of people - with a few manic traits.
Wikipedia says: 'Mania is a severe medical condition characterized by an extremely elevated mood, energy, and unusual thought patterns.
In serious cases there can be hallucinations or imaginings, and conflicts may arise with the environment.'
So, expect the unexpected.
