Under the Hearts and Minds banner Jason Stein (Natural Information Society), Paul Giallorenzo (Ben LaMar Gay), and special guest Gerry Hemingway (Anthony Braxton, Cecil Taylor) bring Illuminescence to the AB Club stage, their next album on Astral Spirits that combines brash fluidity, raw lyricism, and emphatic grooves…
Hearts and Minds is a trio that combines brash fluidity, raw lyricism, and emphatic grooves, creating a daring and intricate musical universe. Bass clarinetist Jason Stein (Natural Information Society, Nature Work…) and keyboardist Paul Giallorenzo (Ben LaMar Gay, PG Trio), both prominent figures in the Chicago jazz and improvisation scene, anchor the group’s dynamic sound. Originally formed with drummer Frank Rosaly, and later featuring Chad Taylor (Jamie Branch, James Brandon Lewis, Chicago Underground), the live lineup will now be further elevated by the esteemed Gerry Hemingway. Hemingway, renowned for his work with avant-garde legends such as Anthony Braxton, Cecil Taylor, Alexander von Schlippenbach, among others, brings an exciting new dimension to the ensemble.
With Illuminescence, their third release on Astral Spirits—home to innovative artists like The Separatist Party, Amirtha Kidambi, Lea Bertucci, and Ava Mendoza—Hearts and Minds is set to bring their powerful sound to select European stages on this special tour.
