Mauro's demonic party-band works with Steve Albini.
Our personal favourite from the Great Mauro Project Book – already a 475 page oeuvre – is definitely Gruppo Di Pawlowksi. This asocial party-band is manned by brilliant musicians like (of course) Mauro Pawlowski (himself), Elko Blijweert, Pascal Deweze, Sjoerd Bruil, Jeroen Stevens and Ben Younes. But, above all: Gruppo Di Pawlowski combines the craziness of Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart with the wild capers of Grinderman. Mauro likes to add to that some Melvins, Truman’s Water, Jesus Lizard and even TC Matic.
We profusely praise this group due to its demonic character. You see the setlist is invariably filled with tracks – ‘Hey Fat Sinister Genius’, ‘Phonecall From A Ruin’, ‘Experiments In Haste’, ... - from his album ‘Truth And Style’ (from ’06), which appeared under the moniker Otot.
The openers are Rock Rally finalists Hazy Hands, with the likes of Lotte – sister of – Vanhamel amongst the members (remember: Vermin Twins). Humo: “together with a number of unidentifiable musical beasts, they dance in a blurry trip over the stage.” Approved by Mauro himself!
