Spiritual roots reggae (with vital jazzy injections!)
There's practically no reggae like Groundation reggae. We're already aware of that in the AB after a remarkable concert in the spring of 2008. Their clever and uplifting music has also flowed abundantly at the finer local festivals. Those who recently experienced their Bob Marley tribute in Petrol, Antwerp, will still be extolling its virtues too.
This year saw the release of the 'Gathering The Elders' CD, an extremely loving and dedicated compilation. Look forward to March 2012 for an entirely new CD that will apparently be titled 'Building The Ark'.
Uplifting language and titles as statements? Groundation also ensures an extremely positive tale packed in extremely positive vibes. The sound is completely reggae, by the way, but the approach is very jazzy at the same time (especially live).
Groundation came into being at the end of last century in California USA and its name refers to the antithesis of the hierarchical model. You get it? So a significant title is 'Each One Teach One', their first CD. We're now six CDs further, more recently with 'Dub Wars' and 'Upon The Bridge'. In between there was also the fantastic Rockamovya project that just missed visiting the AB in the spring of 2010.
High time for a live-revenge? Sure! Even though you won't soon hear that sort of language from Groundation. Rather inspiration, creation, education, exaltation, elevation...
