Internet hit, perfect pop.
'Somebody That I Used To Know'? You're sure to know him, this Gotye! From his last big hit 'Learnalilgivinanlovin'! Now this time with his latest 'Somebody That I Used To Know': an unbelievably fresh, success single, front page news even in De Morgen, as: 'International internet hit... from cult hero to pop phenomenon... actor Ashton Kutcher and pop-star Lily Allen have outed themselves as fans... the blogosphere and Facebookers followed.'
In fact it's Wouter 'Wally' De Backer, born in Bruges, Belgium but raised in Melbourne, Australia. Lets just say 'Wally from Gotye', as this pedigree musician has been occupied by music and sound and recordings for a while now and Gotye is his most spot-on project. Drumming and singing intently at the same time? No worries! Meanwhile striving to find the perfect pop song? That seems to have been working for three CDs long now! By 'perfect' we mean: one of those musical gems where rhythm and melody, beauty and content harmoniously combine. To be found in the section where Empire Of The Sun also happens to score (but you may also think Sting or Thomas Dolby.)
Somebody That I Used To Know (with an excellently accompanying Kimbra) is from 'Making Mirrors', Gotye's most recent release, out here via V2. A vibrant CD, from start to finish. Those also wanting to read a good bio must be sure to drop by Gotye's site http://gotye.com (do be sure to pronounce it 'gaultier' and come to the Gotye soirée!)
The support act will be the highly intriguing Cape Coast Radio. Is a pirate radio station? Is it a supergroup? Can we abbreviate it as CCR? These vague questions and more will be answered on soundcloud.com and http://vi.be
Cape Coast Radio: Tom (vocals) - Nick (ex-Transit - guitar) - Pieter (Marble Sounds - keys/vocals) - Christophe (Marble Sounds - bass/vocals) - Chantal (Sleepingdog - keys/vocals) - Gaëtan (Isbells - drums).
The CD is expected in early November on Zeal Records.
