Desert blues for fans of Tinariwen, Bombino, Mdou Moctar, Imarhan …
The delicious desert blues of Tamikrest (established in Algeria) was reflected recently on their latest album ‘Kidal’. The title refers to their hometown in the north of Mali, and it was released via leading global sounds label Glitterbeat (see too: BaBa ZuLa, Bixiga 70, Noura Mint Seymali, AMMAR 808 ...). For the recordings (that took place in Bamako), they were assisted by the likes of David Odlum, who has already received a Grammy for his work with Tinariwen.
