Icelandic hype scores with R&B/electronica à la SOHN and FKA twigs!
A Liveurope concert:
The first pan-European initiative supporting concert venues in their efforts to promote emerging European music.
It seems as if Sigur Rós has been living next door to Emilíana Torrini for years, as if Kaleo is a cousin of Of Monsters And Men, and Björk is the secret sister of trio Kælan Mikla – that’s how interconnected the Icelandic music scene is. But what if, in that tiny but genius Icelandic community, there was suddenly a trio that nobody knew? Until recently this would have been thought impossible, but that’s exactly what happened with Gangly.
Although they hail from fantastic bands like Seabear, Samaris and Oyama, Sindri Már Sigfússon, Jófríður Ákadóttir and Úlfur Alexander Einarsson were secretive about their latest project. That worked well for them: the hype-blogs exploded with speculation about the mysterious identity behind first single ‘Fuck With Someone Else’.
Their slow electronic R&B sometimes loiters around the sound of SOHN and FKA twigs, ensconced in a wonderfully romantic and dreamy aroma. Latest single ‘Blow Out’, with phenomenal video clip once again, is already a foretaste of an album that is soon to come. Music of the future!
