Flamboyant, exuberant, burlesque circusswing
Gabby Young is a classically schooled British singer. But under the influence of, darn, Jeff Buckley and the jazz-elite she opted for a 'coloratura burlesque cossack dance' approach.
Together with her Other Animals, a coquettish Gabby succeeds wonderfully in transforming jazz, pop, folk and manouche-swing into a vaudeville with cabaret traits and burlesque allures, certainly live.
No electric guitars here, but rather accordion, acoustic guitar, banjo, upright bass, drums and diverse wind instruments plus, of course, that overwhelming voice of young lady Young.
Also bold and relevant: thanks to a Kickstarter campaign, collected £10,000 from the 'fanimals' and went into the studio with it, for a third CD that must now almost be finished.
All Eliza Doolittles, Caro Emeralds, Sarah Ferri's and Jacquelines are welcome!
