Punk-troubadour with a gentle heart and ditto songs!
“An intensely personal record, intimate, as reading pages ripped straight from Frank's diary.” (NME)
“Crafted with his usual love and care, and delivered with fire and conviction.” (The Guardian)
“Originele verhalen vanuit een heel eigen invalshoek. Met een verkwikkelijk gevoel voor humor én op een manier dat je zijn authenticiteit niet in vraag stelt. Een plaat die je moeiteloos mee door de zomer helpt. Zijn sterkste werk tot nog toe.” (De Morgen)
Just like Biffy Clyro (in AB on 16 December), punk-troubadour Frank Turner fills arenas on the other side of the North Sea and he's appeared on the main stage of mega-festivals like Reading and Leeds yet he has hardly made headway here. His latest album ‘Tape Deck Heart’ is bursting with fresh, punky folk-rock with lyrics full of humour, self-reflection and heartache (without ever getting gooey!). “Het hart op de tong en de ziel binnenstebuiten gekeerd” was to be read in the four-star review by Bart Steenhaut (De Morgen) on Turner’s fifth album, one that nestles itself between the work of The Gaslight Anthem, Bruce Springsteen and Billy Bragg.
Earlier this year, Frank Turner strengthened his already solid live-reputation (partly earned by a much enjoyed appearance prior to the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games ’12) on the main stage of Groezrock ’13. The singer-songwriter was forced to miss Pukkelpop due to spinal problems so our tattooed bard with a gentle heart will bear a stronger feeling of revenge in March!
The eccentric folk-punkers of Andrew Jackson Jihad (who manage to integrate difficult themes like poverty, religion, politics, etc in their hilarious lyrics) are allowed up on stage with Frank. Just like Ducking Punches, who will get the evening going whilst armed with a guitar and an own opinion.
