Fine attempt: Forest Swords = Burial + Ennio Morricone.
“Het mooiste dat we dit muziekjaar al in onze mand gemikt kregen.” (Humo)
“Engravings’ is a complex, quietly beautiful record.” (Time Out)
“Best New Music.” (Pitchfork)
You like Burial doing it with Ennio Morricone? Then Forest Swords is your thing.
You like the excellent New York label Tri Angle Records that recently brought forth Holy Other, Evian Christ, Alunageorge, The Haxan Cloak, Vessel and Balam Acab? Then the refined electronica of England's Matthew Barnes is made for you.
You like Easter melodies, the sound of B-movies, slow hip-hop beats, glitchy R&B, dubstep, post-rock guitars and breakbeats? Then ‘Engravings’ – Forest Swords' debut album – is definitely your thing.
Welcome to his wonderful world where it's great to hang out...
Opener for the Forest Swords concerts will be the un-capitalized patten, the latest signing to the ever-qualitative electronica label Warp Records. No capitals? Yep, this distinguished London electronica musician prefers to see his name in lower-case. On his own label, Kaleidoscope, he has already released tapes from the likes of Karen Gwyer and Orphan.
Last year saw the released of EP ‘EOLIAN INSTATE’ (yep, his album titles have to be written with capitals), about which Boomkat wrote: “It's supremely heady stuff, highly recommended if you like Oneohtrix Point Never or Actress”. patten's Warp-debut ‘ESTOILE NAIANT’ is being released at this very moment.
