We're into Folk!
During Belgian Music Week, we'll also be pampering the many folk and world music fans with a real two-day event. We start on 27 January with the fifth edition of the Flanders Folk Awards, honouring the folk scene in all its diversity and creativity with artists who have potential on the international folk and trad scene. This annual festive event provides a stage for established names and emerging folk talent, with live performances and the presentation of the coveted awards. Fans of international sounds can attend the Belgian World Music Awards a day later, with equally exciting performances and awards ceremonies: The BWMAs will take place on 28 January 2025.
The Flanders Folk Awards 2025 will be a packed evening highlighting the richness and versatility of Belgian folk. Presented by Sien Wynants and Michaël Robberechts, the evening will include live performances by Snaarmaarwaar, BLIET and Bamako Express, as well as spotlighting musicians and projects that have made a difference over the past year. Here are the nominees in three categories:
🌟 Best live band: Sara Salvérius & SunSunSun, Wör & Kongero and Spilar
🌟 Horizon: Barbara Ardenois, FLO, Threo
🌟 Best album: 'Vertigo' (Jaune Toujours), 'Live - 20th anniversary concert' (Naragonia & Guests), 'Today And All Days' (Spilar)
The Flanders Folk Awards is more than just an awards ceremony: it's a meeting place for everyone with an interest in the folk scene. Whether you're a passionate music lover, an artist or an industry professional, it's a chance to get together and celebrate the value of this musical culture. We're in the Folk!
