Live Award Show in collaboration with Flanders Folk Network
Flanders is bursting with folk talent and that’s what Flanders Folk Network wants to make known to the general public and the (inter)national music sector. With the fourth edition of the Flanders Folk Awards, we focus on artists with potential within the international trad and folk scene. Aside from the presentation of these awards, there will also be excellent bands on stage. It promises to be an exciting evening with the finest homegrown folk on the programme.
Leán
With their album Tierra Azul, five-member band Leán creates a musical universe revolving around the Argentinian poetess Alfonsina Storni. The result is a new, wholehearted experience, with musical emotion as the main player. An intimate cocoon for an attentive audience whereby influences from folk, jazz, classical and world music are never far removed.
Airboxes XL
Airboxes consists of two guys, two accordions and one story. A catchy sound, served up by duo Bert Leemans and Guus Herremans - one on chromatic and the other on diatonic accordion. Alternating between intimate solos and rich interplays of sound, in XL line-up on this occasion: with guitar wizard Ward Dhoore and master of percussion Ludo Stichelmeyer.
GFVP
This quintet consists of four swinging violins that speak the language of folk, backed by a rhythm guitar. Wouter Vandenabeele, Jeroen Knapen, Lotte Remmen, Anouk Sanczuk and Naomi Vercauteren blend tradition with new compositions, always with a nod to folk-swing.
