You can call their music soul, jazz, reggae or dub, but know that Fat Freddy’s Drop is simply one of the most original bands in the world. The popular export product from New Zealand has been expanding their worldwide fan base with their uncomparable and often improvised live performances.
Their unique sound is the result of a two day long jam, after DJ Fitchie (Chris “Mu” Faiumu), Tony Chang (Toby Laing, trumpets) and singer Joe Dukie (Dallas Tamaira) had taken some LSD –with the image of Gilbert Shelton’s Fat Freddy’s Cat- on a blue Monday. After completing the line-up with Dobie Blaze (keys), Jetlag Johnson (guitars), Chopper Reedz (saxophone) and Hopepa (trombone), the band worked on their strong live reputation.
