Gorillaz Sound System (DVJ), you'd never have guessed it, is a DJ collective pushed by Damon Albarn & Co., which preaches the Gorillaz' musical religion worldwide. Numbers? Supported by an impressive visual spectacle with more than 20 projectors, about 7 DJ's will give it their best in a 3 hour set. For those haven't got it yet: you should not expect Damon Albarn or Danger Mouse behind the mixer, but rather a selection of anonymous DJ's who provide 40 years of British music history with a juicy sauce full of bass and echo's. Trippin?!
CLP = Chris De Luca (EX-FUNKSTÖRUNG) VS Phon.o. Yup, Funkstörung’s Chris De Luca and Phon.o present themselves together under the name CLP on this varied album containing references to hip hop, crunk, booty, IDM and techno. This masterpiece will be released at the end of November on T. Raumschmiere's Shitkatapult label (here via N.E.W.S). With vocal collaboration from the likes of Yo! Majesty, CLP goes in search of its own definition of funk. We recognize Kraftwerk, Afrika Bambaata and Wu-Tang Clan among the ingredients.
The Qemists is currently one of the hottest drum 'n' bass names on people's lips. You heard right: drum 'n bass has been revived by a breath of fresh air, the music resounds once more from speakers at all the biggest dance events. This renaissance is most likely due to the growing strength of dubstep (more below) but just as well to fresh cross-fertilizations with rock, for example. This threesome from Brighton have understood the latter extremely well: drum 'n bass with biting guitars (witnessed by the juicy single 'Lost Weekend' with Mike Patton on the microphone) and a live show with 3 DJs and 1 MC. Pendulum, Coldcut and Laurent Garnier are already fans. How about you?
Vermin Twins is the biting funk-electro party started by Lotte Vanhamel (yup, sister of) and Micha Volders (drummer from El Guapo Stuntteam), a versatile duo-concentration of creativity in music, design and other arts. At the moment you can hear a remix of ‘Kidz’ by Sid & Nancy on their MySpace.
Following the success of last year, this year too the Club will be reserved for the subsonic basses that reign in the young and exciting dubstep genre. Those who've already confirmed their presence: Benga and Caspa & Rusko. BENGA - Skream's mate - wrote one of the dubstep albums of the year, 'Diary of an Afro Warrior'. The duo CASPA & RUSKO were recently noted for their excellent mix-cd in the Fabric-series, at the famous club in London. Dubstep till you drop!
DJ Svn, has never missed a party. Not this time either, as lubricant between all those electro-funk and dubby hip-hop live acts.
Bun-Zero has been active as DJ for 15 years now but since 2002 he's lost his heart to dubstep. He's the driving force behind the first dubstep nights in Brussels and during Exit he'll be happy to introduce us to both classics and the very latest releases.
Cal & Sikey are the aliases of Pieter Gullinck and Wouter Van Der Sanden, the 2 dubstep connoisseurs behind the Studio Brussels programme Baselab.
Ashanti 3000 + Tsunami Wazahari + Saimn I, a ‘dubologik’ encounter between the Belgian Ashanti 3000, Saimn I and the Frenchman Tsunami Wazahari, until sunrise . Dub, roots reggae, jingle, drum ’n bass, trip hop, conscious ragga, steppa dub. The complete groove quoi, under the name of Dubwize!
