CD launch premiere
The moment has arrived! After a quarter-century spent in multiple-member and often exuberant collaboration, Steven De bruyn (driving force behind El Fish and The Rhythm Junks) goes solo.
When Steven began playing harmonica at the end of the eighties, he dreamed that this small tool would become his passport to the world. Since then, he has been living for that dream and has actually made a sexy instrument of the 'harp’.
Exploring the limits of the harmonica comes naturally to Steven. Yet nothing is as exciting and vulnerable as, entirely alone with his instrument, making music and performing.
Steven De bruyn solo means an intimate setting in which the mouth organ – which, over the years, has become an extension of Steven’s deepest being – will tell the largest part of the story.
He will be accompanied live by Jasper Hautekiet, talented musician and travelling companion.
(A little) Praise:
'Steven plays from his true soul'. William Galison (USA)
'Steven est, à ma connaissance l'harmoniciste européen le plus créatif.' 'Steven is, in my opinion, the most creative European harmonica player.' JJ Milteau (Fr)
'The first cut of Steven's I heard, I was floored.' Bill Barrett (USA)
Steven has snagged a few ZAMU awards with El Fish and was hailed Best Musician in 2004. In 2011, he was nominated for a MIA in that same category.
There is almost half an alphabet in collaborations too: from Zap Mama to Raymond van het Groenewoud, via Eugene Chadbourne to the Brussels Philharmonic.
In 2014, Hohner thanked De bruyn by making him the face of their new Hohner Rocket Progressive harmonica.
