French progressive metal volcano spews fireballs on âMagmaâ
Metal monster Gojira (Japanese for Godzilla, one of the best known Kaiju of Japanese mythology) really earned its band name with âLâEnfant Sauvageâ from â12 (those drum parts in the title track!). âGojiraâs best work to date. Successor âMagmaâ, their sixth issue (via Roadrunner â June â16), confirms their status as one of the worldâs most exciting metal- and rock-acts around. There are swarms of comparisons with metal milestones like Metallicaâs untitled album (the black one from â91) and Mastodonâs âThe Hunterâ. Intergalactic riffs combined with an impressively grooving drum and songs, real songs. Something that extreme metalbands sometimes forget.
