“One of our greatest living saxophone players.” - Bon Iver
Saxophonist Colin Stetson is a master of circular breathing. The manner in which he plays his tenor sax reminds one of (free jazz) grandmasters like Evan Parker, Peter Brötzmann and Anthony Braxton. His CV is outright impressive: he has already played with or is to be heard on the albums of: Feist, Bon Iver, Tom Waits, TV On The Radio, David Byrne, Lcd Soundsystem and The National. Stetson is/was also a part of the live bands of Arcade Fire and Bon Iver.
Cüneyt Sepetçi
‘When rock music finally dies I hope Cüneyt Sepetçi plays at the wake.’ (The Wire)
A more than worthy opener – read: an absolute discovery – for this double bill, the Turkish clarinet player Cüneyt Sepetçi. Sepetçi is a welcome guest, from circumcision ceremonies in his hometown Istanbul to the famous Roskilde Festival. What’s more, the man has style: ‘Cüneyt’s handsome moustache is perfectly in place, and he is dressed to impress in a rhinestone blazer and shiny shoes of black leather.’(The Wire). His recently released album ‘Bulgar Gaydasi’ sounds rousing, puts you in a trance and is outright mesmerizing. Colin Stetson’s reaction when we first suggested having Cüneyt Sepetçi open the evening: ‘That sounds great! Would love him to open for me!’
