Resounding hip-hop duo with razor-sharp beats and furious raps
BRDCST is AB’s outstanding indoor spring festival spotlighting musical boundlessness. The name is a direct reference to the retro futuristic electronica-pop of the English band Broadcast that released inspiring albums like ‘Haha Sound’ and ‘Noise Made By The People’ over the past decade. Artists who feel strongly about musical innovation form the focal point for BRDCST. Our musical gut feeling will do the rest.
Add the ability of rapper/producer El-P to the white hot raps of Killer Mike and you get insane rap duo Run The Jewels! RTJ represents resounding hip-hop with razor-sharp beats, dirty bass, raw vocals (including dirty talk) and a killer flow (no pun intended). With two masterful albums to their name, simply entitled ‘RTJ’ and ‘RTJ2’, they have catapulted themselves to the heights of the hip-hop stars – not that Killer Mike is interested in that: “There will be no respect for the thrones”.
Everything the duo touches turns to gold, something they demonstrate (literally) with latest album ‘RTJ3’: both the familiar ‘Gun & Fist’ logo and the vinyl are coated in gold. This masterpiece contains 14 top tracks, including collaborations with Danny Brown, Kamasi Washington and the seriously underrated producer/rapper BOOTS (Beyoncé! FKA twigs!).
El-P and Killer Mike reveal themselves to be innovative as well: ‘RTJ2’ was entirely remixed with cat samples and re-christened ‘Meow The Jewels’ (including cat fur!). Aside from that, they also have an own art movement – ‘Tag The Jewels’ – and for Record Store Day ’16 they put the ‘VRTJ’ Virtual Reality glasses onto the market.
With an inimitable live reputation, they’ll be heading down to BRDCST with their ‘Run The World’tour… and those who know Run The Jewels then know that this will be the hip-hop show of 2017!
