Foretaste of Ozark Henry plays ‘Birthmarks’ (as a part of Rewind)
During these concerts, wearing a mask is mandatory and only bubbles of 1 and 2 people can be seated. What if you want to come with 3 people? You buy I duo bubble and 1 solo bubble. One of your friends will be sitting alone on the balcony. Same goes for all odd numbers.
You can read more about the ABnormal safety measures here.
Ozark Henry’s ‘Birthmarks’ will turn 20 in 2021 and that – you can hear the drumroll resound from afar – will be celebrated on Tuesday 4 May 2021 with a concert. As a part of the ◄◄ REWIND series, Ozark Henry will perform his classic ‘Birthmarks’ in its entirety.
However, to fully test the taste buds in these COVID-19 times, Piet Goddaer already gives us a unique foretaste this fall: namely solo and accompanied by piano.
‘Birthmarks’, the third album by the brain-child of Piet Goddaer, is the most successful Ozark Henry-album. Not surprisingly, as there were no less than five singles drawn from this album: ‘Rescue’, ‘Sweet Instigator’, ‘Seaside’, ‘Word Up’ and ‘Intersexual’. At the time, Piet Goddaer called this album his ‘all or nothing’ album. Clearly, the result was ‘all’. ‘Birthmarks’ went platinum and remained in the Ultratop charts for – ready for it – more than 90 weeks. These days, in 2020, you have to sell more than 20,000 copies to attain platinum. In 2001, that was 50,000. It immediately provided Piet Goddaer with a highly-coveted spot on stage at Rock Werchter and two sold-out ABs, which was rather exceptional at the time.
◄◄ REWIND
In 2007, AB launched a timeless series: ◄◄ REWIND. Central to this series are Belgian artists who perform ‘their classic’. Call it a milestone in their career, or more so: a key album in Belgian pop music. It is often – but not always – about albums that are etched into collective memory. Call them points of reference in the Belgian music landscape. So, in other words, each ‘pièce de résistance’ is performed in its entirety. Completely? That’s right, in the exact order that the artist wanted (or still wants) to tell his/her tale.
With ◄◄ REWIND, AB also contributes to the activation of Belgian musical heritage. Already passed in revue: ‘The Ideal Crash’ (dEUS ), ‘The Kids’ (The Kids), ‘Op Zoek Naar Romantiek’ (Guido Belcanto), ‘Jonge Helden’ (Arbeid Adelt!), ‘Gorky’ (Gorki),‘1981-1984’ (The Neon Judgement),‘Royalty in Exile’ (The Scabs), ‘Nooit Meer Drinken’ (Raymond van het Groenewoud), ‘De Mens’ (De Mens), ‘The Ship’ (Luc Van Acker), ‘Une Ball Dans La Tête’ (De Puta Madre), ‘Hè Hè’ (Jan De Wilde), ‘Laïs’ (Laïs) and ‘Struggle for Pleasure’ (Wim Mertens).
