Ameel Brecht is one of the key figures in the ground-breaking improv band Razen and he goes solo with a resonator-guitar and -mandolin to which he applies classical and avant-garde techniques and alternative tunings. The result places a perfect moebius loop around the music of Kapsberger, O’Carolan, Casseus and Galasso.
The past few years have been very productive for Brecht. Aside from various releases with Razen and the ’18 release of his solo album ‘Polygraph Heartbeat’ (Kraak), there was the release of the Interstedelijk Harmonium Verbond album and he also wrote the music for Bas Devos’ brilliant Brussels nocturnal road movie ‘Ghost Tropic’.
We know Karen Willems from her project Inwolves and collaborations with the likes of Yuko, Eric Thielemans, Jean DL, Benjamin Glorieux, Aidan Baker, Kreng, Zita Swoon, Kaboom Karavan and Mauro. As versatile artist, her work is hard to pigeonhole. Consistent elements are a permanently present focus and the broad musical influences.
