Turkish underground psychfunk artist rediscovered again
There are combi-tickets are available for this concert that also give admittance to the concert by Okay Temiz on Thursday 19 November.
The trademark of the Finders Keepers label is, without a doubt, the dusting off and revival of forgotten gems. That also goes for this Mustafa Özkent, whose album ‘Gençlik Ile Elele’ (loosely translated: ‘Hand In Hand with the Youth’) is a real hit. It's as if hip-hop originator DJ Kool Herc stayed in Turkey for a while and released a breakbeat album there under the moniker Mustafa Özkent. Or: just call it the Turkish version of The Incredible Bongo Band (that was sampled like crazy by Nas, Beastie Boys, Kanye West and others). The cover itself – an ape creating havoc in the studio – doesn't make it any easier to place the music, but we'll stick to extremely danceable psychedelic funk.
‘Gençlik Ile Elele’ dates from ‘73 and, after more than 40 years, Mustafa Özkent is now prepared to present this album live for the first time – in collaboration with Belgian musicians.
This concert came about thanks to the additional support of Europalia Arts Festival and Les Ateliers Claus.
