A celebration of psychedelic folk gospel.
Home! Finally in AB, after their trip to that ill-fated Pukkelpop 2011. Home! You know, that phenomenal single? That's right, 'cos their Home was used massively in diverse ads, including for Microsoft and Peugeot. So catchy that it would seem to be the original version of that huge Little Talks hit from Of Monsters And Men.
Home totally typifies the mad mix of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. Between gospel, folk and perfectly healthy psychedelica. With stable core being Alex Ebert (and singer Jade Castrinos) plus about 10 enthusiastic encompassing disciples.
Or, like De Standaard recently wrote of the latest untitled CD: 'Up With People anno 2013... festive vibe... like neo-hippies... the concert was a celebration... this band is a statement... melodramatic melodies, choral songs... with tonnes of gospel feeling and yet also the necessary industrial nods... warmth, spontaneity, humour and soul... has made this singing Johannes De Doper into a stayer.'
By the way, that CD is out on Gentlemen Of The Road, the new Mumford & Sons label and a correct choice of partner (though you may also briefly think of The Polyphonic Spree or I'm From Barcelona, that sort of cheerfully driven craziness.)
