Charlotte Adigéry: ‘Addictive!’ - Mac DeMarco: ‘Planet earth’s number one!’
Fine praise that we can only underscore. What’s more, you probably still know Eddie Chacon from that classy hit ‘Would I Lie To You’ that dates from the ’90s and the duo Charles & Eddie of which Chacon was one ½. After a silence of almost 30 years, he surprised pretty much everyone with this album ‘Pleasure, Joy and Happiness’ that was recorded together with John Carroll Kirby (who was also to be heard on Solange’s superb ‘A Seat At The Table’).
The Fader described Chacon just recently as ‘a low-key R&B legend’. Mojo praised the album with a ***** review and hailed it ‘a modern masterpiece.’ Eddie Chacon was subsequently embraced stage-wise by Le Guess Who? and also Gilles Peterson at his We Out Here festival, and last year he shone at the Feeërieën!
His latest, soon to be released, album ‘Sundown’ will appear on the hip-hop oriented Stones Throw label (see: Madlib, J Dilla,…). Advance single ‘Comes And Goes’ was described by The Guardian as ‘Gorgeously mysterious’ and by The Fader as ‘a classic Chacon joint: a slow, smooth R&B jam that drizzles his rich falsetto over a bed of bass, automated drums, synth, and sax.’ …
