ECHO COLLECTIVE plays ‘Amnesiac’ (Radiohead) (B)

The classically schooled Brussels ensemble Echo Collective has taken a pretty impressive journey in a short amount of time. In ’16, they appeared twice on stage at London’s Barbican (with Stars of The Lid and with Jóhann Jóhannsson) and on stage at AB they served as string ensemble for Blixa Bargeld (Einstürzende Neubauten) - who had noted that he thought the ensemble was fantastic.

Echo Collective plays ‘Amnesiac’ is the result of a commissioned work whereby AB requested that the string quartet from A Winged Victory For The Sullen let ‘Amnesiac’ – little brother of the contrary ‘Kid A’ – sound as if it was a classical masterpiece.

By means of a concert residence in Huis 23 – resulting in four concerts – the audience could follow ‘the shaping of …’ and see/hear it evolve first-hand. During BRDCST, Echo Collective played the album in its entirety for the first time and received a standing ovation. Hearing is believing.

 

OTTO LINDHOLM (B)

Brussels resident Otto Lindholm was highly recommended to us by Echo Collective itself. For which we are very grateful, as his music – minimal, classical & dark – instantly takes your breath away. This contrabassist/electronica producer also fits in perfectly with Tim Hecker or Mohammad (see: the excellent PAN label).

He’s very vague about his origins or avoids the question, though we’ve managed to fish out that: ‘Otto Lindholm was the name of my gran gran gran father.’ (sic.) Apparently, an actual Russian-Finnish explorer with a big moustache. It has been noted.
