Two spearheads of the Belgian avant-garde in a double bill
Clara Lévy is a French violinist and improviser who lives and works in Brussels. Her career mainly focuses on what today is called ‘new music’. In her solo projects, she questions the listening circumstances and the concert dramaturgy (Outre-Nuit) or the sometimes the blurred boundaries between interpretation and composition (13 Visions).
Aside from collaborations with European ensembles such as HANATSUmiroir, Ictus, Nemø ensemble and dance performances by the likes of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Vera Tussing and Jan Rohwedder, Lévy has also shared stages with artists like Erika Vega, Eva-Maria Houben, Clara de Asis, Jurg Frey and Klaus Lang.
Timo van Luijk (1967) is a self-taught, sound instrumentalist, improvisational composer, photographer and printmaker. Together with Geert Feytons (†2006), he formed the experimental music collective Noise-Maker's Fifes (1989-2006). In 2002, he founded the record label La Scie Dorée in order to release on it his solo project Af Ursin and collaborations with Andrew Chalk (Elodie), Christoph Heemann (In Camera), Frederik Croene and Kris Vanderstraeten. He regularly performs with Limpe Fuchs, Nurse With Wound, Raymond Dijkstra, Louise Landes Levi and Bart De Paepe. Van Luijk also runs Metaphon, a label that mainly releases archive works by Michael Ranta and unreleased recordings by avant-gardists and composers of electronic music.
On May 24, you will be able to see these two pivotal figures of the Belgian avant-garde live at AB Salon.
