Melodic hardcore heaven, the 13th of March in the heart of Brussels!
DEFEATER
Together with Touché Amoré, La Dispute, Counterparts, Pianos Become The Teeth, Make Do and Mend, and Title Fight, the Boston boys of Defeater have been causing a fresh but stormy wind to race through the melodious (post-)hardcore scene in recent years.
On every longplayer, screamer Derek Archambault invariably draws upon the conceptual theme of a broken, working-class family that struggles greatly with addiction, dejection, abuse, and death in the aftermath of WO II. Fourth longplayer ‘Abandoned’ (out since 28/08 via Epitaph Records) focuses on the life of a catholic priest (from the song ‘Cowardice’ on debut ‘Travels’) in conflict with himself and his belief. Passionate, authentic hardcore with harrowing, tormented vocals!
In early ’15, Defeater shone brightly in the list of ’10 Tips for Groezrock ‘15’ - aside Refused, Title Fight, OFF! and Iron Reagan. A band with a whopping live-reputation and one they will fully live up to in Brussels! Yep, there are still certainties in life.
