DE STANDAARD wrote of the première, on January 2009 in the AB:
'Muzikaal behoort Foor 11 tot het sterkste dat De Nieuwe Snaar al deed. Alle leden spelen meerdere instrumenten en de liedjes zijn knap geïntegreerd in het geheel. Balkanmuziek is een belangrijke invloed, maar zelfs dan schuwt de groep de zelfkritiek niet om het modieuze gebruik van 'wereldmuziek' te hekelen met een sketch over een charlatan uit 'Zuid-Oost Ethnië'.
This is no doubt a show that reveals its secrets only after a number of viewings. Some scenes are so multi-faceted and follow each other so quickly that De Nieuwe Snaar would themselves seem to be guilty of the very information-overload that they ultimately accuse society of. Foor 11 encourages a creative interpretation, gives food for though and sometimes just wants to charm. Director Vital Schraenen (Fabuleus, Leporello...) has extracted a coherent whole from the chaotic contributions of these four creative beasts.'
Even HUMO mentioned in a CD review that this: '...may well be the most impressive album of their already substantial career...'
So you'd better hurry to FOOR 11, the finale! Or would you still like an extra intro?
Behind the loud clothes, past the bright lights – where you can barely detect an echo of what was once the din of a wild party – lurks another reality, the B-side of life. De Nieuwe Snaar has been exploring the layers of a multi-faceted reality via unseen musical/theatrical avenues and an extremely personal poetic approach since 1982. However, until now, the flip-side of these investigations had remained fallow ground.
Four idiosyncratic figures appear in "Foor 11". Each, in their own way, singing about, questioning, and maybe even loathing, the margins of reality – their reality, our reality. Colourful instruments, confronting images, tall stories, powerful songs, unexpected situations and statements and so much more powerful madness in order to again give the audience a good going over via humour and compassion, via slapstick and melancholy!
Yet again, a new step in the surprising universe of De Nieuwe Snaar. Fortune favours the bold!
