GROTE MARKT BRUSSELS (7:45 pm – 11:00 pm)
This celebration wants to be the celebration of the year for our community, an evening that everyone eagerly, dressed their best, looks forward to. The concluding celebration of the feast day of the Flemish Community at the Grote Markt in Brussels will be a musical tour de force. The AB wants to shape this apotheosis using its famous expertise and its fine nose for what's happening musically in Flanders. Moreover, it wants to transcend Flemishness and do what we're good at, together: making music, singing and partying. We have great ambitions: this year we'll be making a serious attempt to furnish this apotheosis with more depth and style. The goal is to give every spectator, at the Grote Markt or via the live-broadcast on één, a party to remember afterwards with genuine pride.
KLEI (7:45 pm – 8:15 pm)
A very exceptional prélude in which the characteristics that are so typical to our culture are subtly magnified, verbalized and set to music. For this composition and performance we've appealed to Gerry De Mol. He shall surround himself with a fine assortment of musicians. This performance will be visually supported by the Portret van Vlaanderen, a life-sized photo-composition containing portraits of Flemish people or places in Flanders.
THE AB SUPER STAR SHOW (8:45 pm – 10:40 pm)
The closing concert will be an apotheosis with a plenty of style and a proud allure, after all it is the party of the year for the Flemish Community. For that reason, no cost or effort will be spared in order to make this musical highlight a gem. The performers we've chosen for the occasion are: Gabriel Rios, Paul Michiels, Leki and The Sweet Mints, Stan Van Samang, Yevgueni, Guido Belcanto, Sioen, Mira, Lady Linn and Alex Roeka. They will appear in grandeur. The whole affair will exude an atmosphere of pride, glamour and respect. An evening with class, presented in style.
This concert's story will be shaped by Kobe Proesmans (El Tattoo del Tigre and Gabriel Rios). The band, a rhythm section, expanded into a massive big-band with extra festive horns, will be led by Bert Gielen. We'll be counting on Peter Van de Veire as maître de cérémonie.
GREAT MUSIC IN THE INNER CITY (12:30 pm – 7:00 pm)
In the eyes of the Ancienne Belgique, the Flemish feast day is more than just a happening in the evening. Music must and shall be made the entire day long! The city-party kicks off in the afternoon with ‘t Groot Muziek. The inner-city is then one big musical party, with the whole afternoon long free performances, a musical contest, brass-bands, musical street-theatre and children's programmes. The ideal way to discover Brussels, on a musical walking-tour! The best non-professional musicians from local soil will occupy all sorts of enjoyable locations in the centre of Brussels, for the entire afternoon. From the Spanjeplein, along the Grasmarkt, via the Sint-Katelijneplein, to the Dansaertstraat, to the Steenstraat Music Street and much much further!
Those arriving by train will be greeted at Central Station by the festive sounds rising from the Spanjeplein. That is where Het Groot Orkest will take place, a concept in which the best fanfares, brass-bands and orchestras from each Flemish province receive a spot on the bandstand. Het Groot Orkest is a collaboration between AB, Het Nieuwsblad and Vlamo (Flemish Amateur Music Organisation).
From the Spanjeplein you will guided by a colourful procession of mobile street-theatre acts that will get the musical discovery tour started. Between 12:30 pm and 7:00 pm, acoustic ensembles, soloists, bands and singer-songwriters will be accommodated in countless shops, cafés, churches, galleries and other pleasant places. So the best young musicians receive the opportunity to play for a wide audience and in unique locations, like shop windows, the Brussels Parliament and the Goede Bijstands Church. It will be a party across all musical boundaries, from rock in the AB Café, to jazz in the Archiduc to classical in the Kartell. A special programme for children will be provided in the courtyard of community centre De Markten, at the Oude Graanmarkt.
At 3:00 pm, a unique rock contest will commence at the Sint-Katelijneplein: Het Groot Geweld. Poppunt, FM Brussel and AB give twenty bands or singers the chance to play their ‘Biggest Hit’ and so compete for first prize. That being a recording session in the AB studio for the winning song, which will also be registered right away in FM Brussel's playlist.
