“It is with great sadness that we announce that David Sylvian will be unable to undertake the scheduled tour in March and April 2012. David has sustained a lower back injury that is causing him significant pain and affecting his mobility to such a degree that, at this time, he will be unable to perform. We are hoping that with medical care his condition will improve significantly and that we'll be able to reschedule the tour at a later date. We're doing all that we can to bring this unanticipated setback to a positive conclusion. David will be writing a personal note that we will post online shortly.”
Unique and rare show by David Sylvian.
What an honour! What a gentleman! A real honour for AB to be able to welcome David Sylvian a second time. What a gentleman this David Sylvian is too. Ever stylish and always keeping up with the times musically, or rather: ahead of the times. In the late '70's and early '80's he released six albums under the name of an Asian country (sorry, we were told not to use the name anymore) and unwillingly became a pop-star hailed as the forerunner of the new romantics (Spandau Ballet, Visage,...). Following their split in '82, Sylvian worked with the likes of Ryuichi Sakamoto (for the film 'Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence') and Robert Fripp but concentrated primarily on his solo career. Ingenious albums like 'Brilliant Trees' and 'Gone To Earth' revealed an idiosyncratic performer who turned his back upon the mainstream pop world.
In the early '00's he established his own record label - SamadhiSound – that primarily serves to output the work of Sylvian and his brother Steve Jansen (each assumed a different surname). On albums like 'Blemish' ('03) and 'Snow Borne Sorrow' ('06, under the name NINE HORSES) he worked with guitarist/laptop-wonder Fennesz and guitarist Derek Bailey, respectively, and with dubmaster Burnt Friedman too. We also recently saw the release of ‘Manafon’ (’09), ‘Sleepwalker’ (’10) and ‘Died In The Wool’ (’11), which left an indelible impression.
Please note: it's already was from ’07 ago that Sylvian performed in AB before a full house. His shows are also rare too. Stronger still: in ’07 he whispered after the show that: “There might not be a next time”. Forewarned is forearmed…
