AB has invited a series of impressive international jazz musicians to visit in past years. Remember Brad Mehldau, Joe Lovano, John Zorn, Cassandra Wilson, John Scofield and also Marsalis. We can now add double-bass player Dave Holland to this impressive list, he'll be dropping by AB with his extremely impressive QUINTET.
In the past Dave Holland was sidekick to a number of jazz titans including pianist Thelonious Monk and also Miles Davis (during the period around 'Bitches Brew'). He's also worked with the likes of Roy Haynes, Geri Allen and Kenny Wheeler and he was part of top jazz collectives including ScoLoHoFo (a quartet with Scofield, Lovano and Foster amongst the members) and also the all-star quartet led by Herbie Hancock, which included Wayne Shorter.
Following a long and fruitful collaboration with ECM, Holland established his very own label in '05. His main activities are released on Dare2 Records, including 'Overtime' from the DAVE HOLLAND BIG BAND. The most recent feat from his QUINTET is called 'Critical Mass'. You can be sure that Holland will be an impressive improvisor live. Or to say it with his own words: 'I don't want to perform night after night and play in a routine. I want the music to be alive and real. I want to be enthusiastic. By extension, that translates to the audience.'
This concert is part of the Skoda Jazz festival.
