Darkside on tour
DARKSIDE, the project of singer and electronic music phenomenon Nicolás Jaar and multi-instrumentalist Dave Harrington, returns to European stages. For this tour, they will be joined by percussionist Tlacael Esparza, who has joined the band as a permanent member. Fans can look forward to some new compositions.
In the summer of 2011, American guitarist Dave Harrington joined Chilean Nicolás Jaar's band on tour in Europe and Australia to promote his debut album ‘Space Is Only Noise’. During the tour, the two musicians experimented at every turn to create a new palette of sounds. The result? A dark, latent mix of electronica and rock mixed with psychedelia, which resulted in their eponymous EP (2011). They also masterfully remixed Daft Punk's entire album (‘Random Access Memories’), which has been listened to millions of times: ‘The project transcends the standard remix record and the duo are widely praised for their ability to balance originality and playfulness’. (Focus Knack).
In 2013, they released their debut album, ‘Psychic’ to rave reviews, including a 9.0 from Pitchfork. The New York Times called it ‘a soundtrack worthy of a David Lynch sci-fi film’. The Belgian press was equally enthusiastic:
‘Pink Floyd rises from the ashes of a collection of albums cooked up by Brian Eno’ - Knack Focus.
‘Like their near-perfect debut EP from 2011, Jaar and pal Dave Harrington create a patchwork of krautrock, post-rock, Pink Floyd-psychedelia, downtempo and techno, a fusion that results in a set of songs that could have belonged on Air, if this duo had lost themselves in late-night marathon studio sessions today, if they had rid themselves of the nostalgic romance of ‘Cherry Blossom Girl’ and ‘Playground Love’, and if they secretly dreamt of a second career as cosmonauts. ‘ - Humo
The long-awaited second album, ‘Spiral’, followed in July 2021, preceded by the singles ‘Liberty Bell’, ‘The Limit’ and ‘Lawmaker’. After eight years, DARKSIDE are finally back on the European stage, with headline gigs in Paris, Toulouse, Manchester and London, and multiple residencies at the Nuits Sonores and Le Bon Air festivals in France. The duo will also be performing at Primavera Sound in Barcelona and Madrid. They also added a Belgian stopover at the Cirque Royal, a concert that sold out in no time.
