Godfather of Neo-Folk
“Jurado is slowly turning into one of our most treasured songwriters.” (BBC)
“Broker in impressive songs.” (Humo)
“An artist who has been gaining in eloquence for years now.” (RifRaf)
Seattle resident, singer songwriter Damien Jurado has been around for a while. Not without reason, he was once described as Seattle’s Godfather of Neo Folk. But then he had already debuted in the 20th century – in ‘97 to be precise – and actually delivered his 10th album last year, ‘Maraqopa'. Maraqopa? Jurado: “It’s a made up word.” A joke by his mate, producer, The Shins-member and multi-instrumentalist Richard Swift. “If you name your album that then you'll introduce a new term to Google.”
Yup, Jurado has a sense of humour. But particularly: a golden voice. So it's not without reason then that the famous Rough Trade Shop gave credit to his latest album with a nomination for their ‘Top 10 Albums of The Year 2012’ chart. Damien Jurado doesn't tour all that much, but did give a wonderful concert at our summer festival Feeërieën and is pleased to be heading down to the intimate setting of Huis23 this winter to play a unique concert. . If you're a fan of My Morning Jacket, Neil Young and Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy then you know what to do.
This concert is sold out!
