Teletime-machine to the jazz of the swinging 30's
C.W. Stoneking, the Australian who single handedly – and apparently effortlessly – revives the 30's, just recently played 3 sold-out concerts here in Belgium. He and his Primitive Horn Orchestra also happen to play for popular venues worldwide, with songs plucked from 5 albums - of which the 2 most recent (‘King Hokum’ and ‘Jungle Blues’) contain mostly own work.
A number of excellent interpretations on television (from Later With Jools Holland to De Laatste Show) made him a true star, even with music that trendy folk would consider to be completely dated too. But it's precisely his fresh approach, whereby he allows his own songs to marinate for a while in the swinging vintage calypso-style, that would appear to be so popular. A result that he further embellishes with elements of blues, vaudeville, ragtime, hill-billy and jazz.
On Wednesday 22 February 2012 Christopher William (long for C.W.) Stoneking returns to Belgium for a concert in the AB.
Support-act will be Gemma Ray from Berlin. There's a new album expected in February, entitled 'Gemma Ray Sings Sparks (with Sparks)'. Jimmy Page is already a fan of this young lady.
