DOMINO: CRYSTAL ANTLERS + ASIWYFA + KAPITAN KORSAKOV
8:00 pm - Kapitan Korsakov
Belgian and impressive! Also often creepily abbreviated as KKK. Their debut ‘Well Hunger’ could certainly count on quite a lot of approval. Cutting Edge: “’Well Hunger' is een egoïstische noise-uitstap die zwaar rockend begint met 'When we were Hookers', maar het meest geniet van de bakken sonische vuiligheid die Kapitan Korsakov erover strooit. Misleidend en boordevol dwaalsporen”. The single ‘When We Were Hookers’ even bagged the nomination for 'most searing riff of ’09' on StuBru’s ‘Select’. Even between even more cool riffs from tracks by good (inter)national folk like The Hickey Underworld, A Place To Bury Strangers and Baroness. Indeed, Cutting Edge also loudly shouted: “Kapitan Korsakov is België’s eigenste Fucked Up.”. Oh yes!
9:00 pm - Asiwyfa (uk)
Asiwyfa or rather: AND SO I WATCH YOU FROM AFAR was undoubtedly the revelation of the most recent Eurosonic. BBC Radio already shouted “The most talked about band in the country over the past 12 months.” last year. Their self-titled debut was endlessly praised in their homeland and immediately made fans of Red Sparowes, Explosions In The Sky, 65daysofstatic and Isis foam at the mouth. Their yet-to-be-released EP ‘The Letters EP’ was already sold-out before it reached the stores. Admittedly: there were only 200 copies of this gem pressed. Also fun: the titles on this EP: ‘S Is For Salamander’, ‘D Is For Django The Bastard’ or: ‘B Is For B-Side’. Just to round off, NME about this instrumental bomb: “The sound of someone crashing an oil tanker through Sigur Rós' ice float.”
10:30 pm - Crystal Antlers
Crystal Antlers is a Californian fivesome that – according to Humo – fuses scraps of Comets on Fire, MC5, hardrock, psychedelica, garage-punk and prog-rock into the most uncompromising, intense and ambitious beautiful mess to strike our ear-drums in the last few months.” For their debut EP, 'EP', Humo further ranted “Het furieuze gefreak op 'EP' veroorzaakt rushes van pure opwinding, hun solo's zijn altijd to the point, de hese schreeuwzang van Bell is onversneden witte soul.” The debut that followed, ‘Tentacles’, was a little less adulated but it was true love again after their visit to Pukkelpop: “indrukwekkend schouwspel”. Basically: stop reading and come and see for yourself!
