Bright Eyes – classy songwriter - Americana
Whether American songwriter Conor Oberst operates under his own name, under his band Bright Eyes or in the überband Monsters of Folk (with the likes of Jim ‘My Morning Jacket’ James, M. Ward,...), the result always sounds equally vivid, genuine and fascinating.
So too on his soon to be released album ‘Ruminations’ that is to appear on the prestigious Nonesuch (Devendra Banhart, Wilco,...). After more than 10 years in New York, Oberst decided to swap it for his hometown Omaha (in Nebraska), without a plan to start writing a new album.
Oberst: ‘I was just staying up late every night playing piano and watching the snow pile up outside the window. Next thing I knew I had more than enough songs for a record.’
The result sounds downright pure, raw and thrilling. Basically: 100% Conor Oberst.
