With their signature blend of jazz and psychedelia, this Ghent-based collective is this time building a musical bridge to Kinshasa.
ConcertCompro Oro has been touring the world for over ten years. The Ghent-based collective draws on jazz and psychedelia for its unique soundscape, enriched with influences from global sounds from every corner of the globe. From Havana to Mogadishu to Istanbul: every album brings fresh musical inspiration, featuring groovy songs, colourful melodies, and the marimba and vibraphone taking centre stage. On *Buy The Dip* (2022), the band added a generous dash of synths and electronic effects, with the crypto world as their target.
For their latest project, the Ghent-based band are heading to Kinshasa. To this end, they’ve joined forces with the Congolese likembé player, vocalist and dancer Bouton Kalanda, who also regularly collaborates with Alain Platel and Fabrizio Cassol. With his warm (bass) likembé and intriguing vocals in Lingala, he gives the quintet’s layered sound a fresh twist. Think: Konono N°1 meets a stylish jazz twist, with that recognisable Compro Oro groove running through it all.
This new musical direction is being unveiled in two phases: the EP *Lamellomania* was released in January 2026, followed by the full album on 29 January 2027. Both releases are out via W.E.R.F. Records. Expect new grooves, unexpected musical detours and, above all, plenty of energy to get you moving.
