Album Launch for second Cold Specks issue.
“Haunting doom-laden soul.” (Vogue)
“Positively spellbinding and downright possessed.” (NME)
“Strange, compelling, old-fashioned and timeless.” (The Observer)
We've rarely been so impressed by a voice as by that of black Canadian Al Spx or: Cold Specks. Her musical roots reach back to the musical tradition of the Deep South (think: the field recordings of Alan Lomax), spiced with the aura of Bill Callahan and Tom Waits and the spirituality of Mahalia Jackson. Her band name is borrowed from ‘Ulysses’ by James Joyce.
Her debut ‘I Predict A Graceful Expulsion’ was released in '12 and she swapped Canada's Etobicoke for London in order to conquer the world from there. ‘Later With Jools’ fell for her talent. Now her new album – working title: ‘Neuroplasticity’ – is soon to be released and AB is pleased to be able to welcome her back again, for the 3rd time already.
