Reunion of this unique New York (Duyster) slowcore band.
2012 will be a fine year for Codeine. This legendary New York slowcore band will namely reunite, at the request of Mogwai (who'll be curating ‘Ill Be Your Mirror’ in London this spring). This reunion soon also resulted in a fine extra... the band will tour again in the US and also in Europe in 2012, whereby they'll be making stops at Primavera (Barcelona) and the AB. At the same time, in order to highlight their musical heritage once more, their entire musical output will be re-released this spring in the form of a fine ‘deluxe box’ (via the renowned Numero label).
Codeine came into being in 1989 and released two full length albums: ‘Frigid Stars’ (’90) and ‘The White Birch’ (’94), both on the legendary Sub Pop label. They're considered to be the pioneers of the slowcore/sadcore genre and were, as such, an influence on the likes of Low, Idaho and Red House Painters. Without Codeine, a fine programme like Duyster would never have existed.
The band will perform in it's original line-up:
Stephen Immerwahr – vocals/bass
John Engle - guitar
Chris Brokaw – drums
Support-act will be Brussels' Jesus is My Son. Behind this divine project you will find guitarist Grégory Duby, also label-owner of the easily pronounced noise/xprmtnl/improv label FF HHH. His latest, second, album ‘1914-1918’ focuses upon the First World War. His music sounds quiet and desolate and is therefore a godsend as opener for Codeine.
