Cocoon is one of the most recent and most remarkable discoveries in the offices of the AB. It's the feeling that creeps over you like when you first hear Sufjan Stevens, Fleet Foxes or The Do. Yes, you can also take those three names as accurate references too. This French duo deals namely in apparently simple acoustic songs in which the lyrics predominate, but after a first introduction pretty soon you're whistling along too.
Their debut is rather gloomily titled 'My Friends All Died In A Plane Crash'. Meanwhile, the band is a raging success story with our southern neighbours. Bit by bit they're conquering the rest of Europe too (with concerts in Amsterdam and Brussels), and for the cover-treasure-hunters amongst you, we recommend you take a listen to the heart-stopping version of Outkast's 'Hey Ya' on their MySpace. March 11 they were support act to that other French success story Aaron, now already on their own two feet in the ABBox.
Little is the nom de plume of Aurélie Nguyen. This Parisian resident of Vietnamese origin is only 21 years young. Fortunately she doesn't fall into the trap of the omnipresent acoustic neo-folk but embraces with pleasure the bon-bon pop that made many French hearts skip a beat. So somewhere between Kate Bush and France Gall in the days of ‘Poupée de Cire Poupée de Son’. A discovery with an impressive copywriter at her side, as we read in her bio: ‘un disque, aux humeurs élastiques’. We couldn't have come up with better.
