Promising Belgian band debuts with ‘Light Stays Close’
The Spectors did a considerable amount of browsing through the dark caverns of half a century of pop and rock music for their forthcoming debut ‘Light Stays Close’ (Pias). On a diet of krautrock, new wave, shoegaze and indie-pop, they dove into the La Chapelle studios in the Ardennes with producer Chris Urbanowicz (ex-Editors) again, to record a follow-up to the untitled EP with which they managed to secure spots on the bills of Dour, Boomtown and Leffinge Leuren in 2013.
The press refers to Slowdive, Dum Dum Girls, The Raveonettes and The Breeders. In the Wablief?! tent at Pukkelpop ‘14, we heard a cover of The Brian Jonestown Massacre pass in revue too. Mix all those influences with a serious portion of melodious pop and a Phil Spectorian Wall of Sound (totally obligatory with such a band name!) and you get an idea what kind of tasty stuff The Spectors serve up.
