A double-bill of shoegaze, indie-pop and folk
Mooneye
In early 2019, Michiel Libberecht and band (or rather Mooneye) was crowned as one of the three winners of the Nieuwe Lichting. ‘Thinking About Leaving’, the single that is also to be found on their debut ‘Mooneye EP’, was described by De Standaard as ‘Een song die doet denken aan Vampire Weekend minus de exotiek, Novastar met meer poeier, of Beirut zonder trompetten. Noem het wat je wil: de song is spannend en feilloos afgewerkt.’ Their melancholy, timeless indie-pop/folk has ears pricking up in The Netherlands too. ‘This Thing’ was acclaimed as A-album of the week on NPO Radio 2 and OOR described their music as ‘meesterlijke popsongs van uitzonderlijke klasse’. Mooneye opened for Black Box Revelation earlier this year in a sold-out AB.
Almighty Mighty
The new band from Ghent grabbed attention right away with their first single ‘Slow Burner’. Almighty Mighty is a collaboration between producer Reinhard Vanbergen (Das Pop, The Happy) and dEUS-drummer Stéphane Misseghers. They bring together familiar faces Michélé De Feudis (Horses on Fire), Ian Clement (Wallace Vanborn), Alan Gevaert (dEUS), Stijn Vanmarsenille (Future Old People Are Wizards) and Emily Vernaillen (Azra) to perform a hybrid of indie-rock, shoegaze and trip-hop. Their debut EP will be released via PIAS later this year.
