Cleymans sings Spring
Jelle Cleymans is turning 40 and, he says, wants to pull out all the stops to avoid a midlife crisis. His idea? Calling up his closest musical friends and asking them if they feel like revisiting Spring's repertoire together. There was loud laughter at first at the other end of the line, but then they all collectively answered ‘Yes’! For Cleymans, Spring's music is where it all began. As a skinny lad of 17, tucked into a dungarees and matching Hawaii shirt, he stole the hearts of many Flemish teenagers. All those years ago, it was totally unclear how decisive this period would become for him, but also for a whole generation of young people. Spring will always remain inextricably linked to him and is now a big part of who he is. Jelle realises this all too well today, especially after the two immensely popular reunion concerts. That insane nostalgic power, according to Cleymans, cannot be compared to anything!
Jelle Cleymans was too eager to rekindle that nostalgic power. But because tram 4 is waiting for him, he likes to do things a little differently this time. Together with his musical friends Mario Goossens, Axl Peleman, Florejan Verschueren, Vincent Van Santfoort and Damian Corlazzoli - his partner in crime for 23 years now - Jelle Cleymans will head to the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels on 14 May. And after that? Then again, we'll see how far we... jump.
