To kick his cocaine habit and reconnect with his artistic creativity, Bowie decided to move from LA to Europe in 1976. Influenced by German ‘krautrock’ and after stopping off in Switzerland, Bowie soon headed for Berlin, first of all to help Iggy Pop record his album ‘The Idiot’. By the end of 1976 he had recorded the album ‘Low’ with Brian Eno and Tony Visconti (in France). This was the first in what would become known as The Berlin Trilogy (with ‘Heroes’ and ‘Lodger’).
