Finally! Citizen Cope is one of the best kept American singer-songwriter secrets. Even though he tours the States intensely and he's also already released 4 CDs since 2002. Ever idiosyncratically navigating between folk and pop and rock and hip-hop, occasionally even with a Carlos Santana involved, eg: in the compelling 'Sideways' (also to be found on Santana's Shaman album.)
To be situated between Chocolate Genius and G.Love? His real name is hidden in the title of 'The Clarence Greenwood Recordings', a CD from 2004 that charmed immediately, from beginning to end. Now with enough fans convinced here too to look forward to a full-blown Belgian or even European concert, at last.
That Cope changed record companies for each release doesn't make it any easier to follow his career here. Now he's just gone ahead and set up his own business: Rainwater Recordings, with a first 'The Rainwater LP' just out and it does indeed appear to be an LP: only 10 songs and those who want more can listen to it again and again.
