Now a newsflash from our favourite American guitar star: 'NEW RECORD: 'Mexico City sessions'. I've recorded deep in the "bible belt" and in the heart of the "money belt". Never been to the "borscht belt" but I've heard of it. Anyway, this time around it's Mexico. Mexico City is like the Rosetta Stone of our own urban future. I was there couple months back and found a state of the art studio (state of art circa 1958) and fell in love with the place. As the bottom falls out of the big lie here at home, I'll be aiming my telescope backwards from a vantage point 7,000 feet up in the "city of eternal spring". And really, who doesn't like spring?'
Hmmm, hopefully Chuck will make it out of Mexico City in good health once the fever has waned, because this is not to be missed. This prophet preaches extremely sincere rock 'n' roll passion with his electric guitar. Ever inventive and precise. He's been delivering impressive solo CDs since 1990, but hopefully you also know him as the sharp sideman or song-provider to Dan Penn, Solomon Burke, Alejandro Escovedo, Cake, Warren Zevon, Silos (remember AB BelleVue Club?) and of course the divine Green On Red.
Meanwhile our brave performer has even established his own label in these (for record companies) difficult times: (((Belle Records))) (yep, that's how it's written, with six brackets). Following his previous impressive CD 'Soap And Water', plus that steamy ABClub concert in 2007, now back again with his Mission Express and his 'Mexico Sessions' (on Cooking Vinyl via V2)
Unbelievable too, even Chuck Prophet now 'twitters' too: 'I am a twittering mother now, tweet-tweet-twiddle-dee-deet.'
