‘Kraftwerkian melodies against, techno-inspired rhythms’
Brand-new project by Stereolab-founder Tim Gane, one that deals in loose jams with a strong krautrock feel containing strong elements of electro and techno. Their latest album ‘Void Beats/Invocation Trex’ was released via electronica trendsetter Warp and they received assistance on it from the likes of Bradford Cox (Deerhunter), Sonic Boom (Spacemen 3) and Joe Dilworth, the original drummer of (there’s that DNA again) Stereolab.
Cavern Of Anti-Matter is the equivalent of a glorious ‘retro-futuristic flashback’ or, as we picked up somewhere: ‘the bloop ’n’ burble of modular synths’. Our favourite song title of the year has also been decided at the same time: ‘Blowing My Nose Under Close Observation’. Achoo!
de portables
‘‘The Killing Horizon’ is een motherfuckin’ trip van een plaat.’
(Humo)
Ghent’s de portables has been around for 20 years this year and is marking the occasion with a true double album: ‘The Killing Horizon’. Humo about that: ‘De dub- en krautgrooves vloeien rijkelijk, maar de nieuwe portables overstijgt met gemak de zoveelste spacerockvingeroefening.’ In other words: Perfect as double-bill with Cavern Of Anti-Matter.
