Come September 8, a new Calexico album will be released. Pivotal figure is still the good humoured duo Joey Burns and John Convertino, who met each other at the side of Howe Gelb in Giant Sand. 5 Albums and various Eps have already appeared under the name Calexico, of which 'In The Reins' from 2005 is probably the most remarkable (written together with Sam Beam of Iron And Wine). Their sound has been evolving adventurously for 12 of so years already, but it circles safely around hometown Tucson, Arizona, leaning nice and warmly toward the Mexican border. Their greatest hit is still 'Crystal Frontier', which, by the way, was measured up for an infectious remix by our very own Buscemi.
'Rest Now, Weary Head! You Will Get Well Soon' is a pretty strange title, to say the least, for the debut from the German band Get Well Soon. Well 'band' is actually a big word, Konstantin Gropper is the 25 year-old young German who wrote this wonderful CD entirely on his own. Musically he finds his liking in diverse genres like electronica, soundtracks, Motown pop and dark alt.rock. Perfect stuff for fans of Arcade Fire, The National, or Radiohead even. Take into account his guts (he even puts Underworld's 'Born Slippy' through the wringer) and the mildly euphoric album reviews (**** Uncut) and we're talking about a successful eastern neighbour, overflowing with talent. In London, Amsterdam and Brussels he'll be opening for Calexico.
