After a long absence, this party band finally returns to AB.
Welcome back Calexico! After steaming visits to AB in ’01 and ’08, Calexico is once again entirely ready to conquer the world once more. Over the past months, Calexico has been quietly working away on a new album – their first in years – that will see the light of day in mid-September. Calexico is still the pivots around cheery duo Joey Burns and John Convertino, who became acquainted at the side of Howe Gelb in Giant Sand.
Those who can't wait until then can keep themselves satisfied in the meantime with ‘Road Atlas 1998-2011’, a box containing no less than 8 vinyl albums - even including the AB concert of ’08.
Support-act will be singer-songwriter Laura Gibson. Not so surprising if you're aware that Calexico's Joey Burns lent a helping hand on her latest album ‘La Grande’, which was released earlier this year. The Dodos and The Decemberists also provided their musical services. Gibson’s voice is striking and her music contains echoes of Calexico, Feist and Joanna Newsom.
