Boterhammen In Het Park 2023
A man, his guitar, & pianist + Laïs back as duo and in good company
After a few editions in Tour & Taxis, Boterhammen In Het Park returns to our beloved Warandepark! From August 28th to September 1st, discover the finest Flemish or Dutch-language music of the moment during this free summer festival.
A man puts on his jacket and hits the road. He takes his guitar and travels to a place where people come to listen to his songs and stories. He’s been doing this for years. Usually with De Mens, but sometimes all by himself or, at most, accompanied by master pianist David Poltrock. Bearing a number of covers (of De Mens and of others), but mainly with songs from his solo albums, Frank Vander linden (such as In de walszaal) and Nachtwerk (such as the classic Ik dacht aan een vrouw). This summer, he will add a number of tracks from a work to be released in 2023.
Without De Mens, Frank Vander linden writes and plays more contemplatively. The lyrics get even more attention and the fluent guitar comes to the fore. The piano of comrade David Poltrock emphasises the intimate atmosphere. The audience can laugh and cry. A man, his guitar, his music. Intensity guaranteed.
Finally, Laïs is back! After a release pause of more than eight years, the band has a new album out. De Langste Nacht marks the start of a new chapter for Jorunn and Nathalie, who now carry on as a duo and continue to make music in good company. Laïs’ formula for success was reinvented and expanded, sculpted in the Flemish clay and with their eyes on the world. The ladies are assisted on this new album by their partners, Bjorn Eriksson and Tomas de Smet. That’s how the two blood brothers of the former Zita Swoon stepped into a world full of Flemish magic, exotic rhythms, and oriental sounds.
Jorunn and Nathalie remain themselves, continuing to surprise and converting foes. The stunning album sounds familiar and innovative at the same time. On stage, the four are joined by multi-instrumentalist and singer Esther Lybeert (The Antler King, ex-Hooverphonic), guitarist Tom Theuns (Aurelía, ex Ambrozijn) and drummer Roel Poriau (Rumbaristas, ex-Think of One). The worlds of these top musicians and accomplished singers blend seamlessly. Close your eyes, enjoy and dance.
